Week 8: One Room Challenge, The Final Reveal
We made it. Just in the nick of time. A lot of things happened this week. To be honest not all great. I wasn’t sure we were going to finish but this project has brought some much needed light into our lives. I always say that my husband and I love doing these projects together. That doesn’t mean they are easy, or that we don’t fight. We definitely do that. A LOT. However, the good moments, the laughter, the fun, and the satisfaction of a job well done outweigh any negatives. And this week we needed all of the good things. We had some heartbreaking news that I won’t get into but this project has given us an outlet that has helped us move forward. I have a lot of little projects that we completed this week that I will write about later, but for this post it’s all about the finished product.
This porch was all about an outdoor retreat. For me a retreat means comfy, open, breezy and a little beachy. That’s why I went with a classic Hamptons style with pops of mustard yellow, natural materials, and greenery. I created a lot of layers by using different materials. The curtains are made from a cotton woven material. The rug is a natural jute material. The pillows, the poof, and round ottomans are all various materials while still fitting in the color scheme. This adds consistency to the design while still creating more layers.
We were able to incorporate a lot into a little bit of space. We have a seating area that will sit 5 easily, an area to store blankets and trinkets, and a breakfast nook for those mornings where drinking coffee outside sounds perfectly delightful.
Decorating is one of my favorite parts, because everything comes together into that final product. Is it exactly what I had in mind, no. But is it amazing? YES. All of the little touches from the plants, pieces of art, blankets, and even the roses from my own garden make this space exactly what it is supposed to be.
I have truly loved working on this project, but I am so excited to start enjoying my porch before it gets too cold. More projects to come, but for now a little rest for the holidays.
This project was completed as part of the One Room Challenge where guests participate by transforming one room. Check out the other participants final products on their blog.
