I have always been a creative at heart. When I was little I would design my barbie houses and set up each room in my barbie dream home. And that’s it…I didn’t want to play pretend with the barbies I wanted to set up new and better homes for my dolls.
Designing the house was the important part of playing with dolls. Then I wanted a house all to myself so my Dad and Grandfather built me a playhouse. Looking back, I realize it was a shed with a cute porch, but I didn’t care. I loved it.
As I got older, I rearranged my room, painted it while my mom was at work, and finally left for college where I got to redesign my living space every year. I remember my first dorm room. All of the furniture was attached to the wall, so I couldn’t rearrange anything. That meant I had to get creative with the posters and wall decorations. I bought numerous magazines and made a huge mural on my wall out of all of the pages that I ripped from the magazines. It was my version of wall paper.
After college I worked for a few years and eventually saved enough to buy my first house. It was a fixer upper. Wood paneling, pony walls with railing, carpet in the dining room and a yellow kitchen sink that matched the dryer. That house was where I really started diving into DIY’s, decorating, and interior design. Check out my first blog post about that house and how it looked when I finally sold the house in order to purchase my family’s new home.
Every week I hope to post a DIY project update, tips on adding character to your own space, and basic interior design information to give you the confidence to turn your house into a home you love.
