My love for home decor probably started when I was really young. I used to watch the show trading space and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I longed for my childhood home to be chosen. It never was…but now I have taken matters into my own hands.

About 6 years ago I bought a house. It was love at first sight. A cute little brick ranch that sat on a hill with two large oak trees in the front yard. I later realized that I would worry about those trees falling on my house every time there was a storm, but that’s not the point of this blog.

Inside of this cute little house I fell in love with the wood floors, fireplace, and the yard. I could tell this house had good bones. I put in an offer the first day it went on the market and the family that owned it accepted my offer later that day. To this day this house has been my best purchase. It will always be my first home and one that hold a place in my heart.

All of that being said. It was not all sunshine and rainbows. The day I moved in I realized there was no shower head. Yep you read that correctly, no shower head. Just a bathtub and a shower curtain…with no actual shower head. That became my first DIY project with my husband (my boyfriend at the time). We got one of those turn your bathtub faucet into a hose pipe and lived like that for about a year so I could save up enough money for someone to come in and add a shower head. I knew I wanted to do tile in the bathroom and I didn’t want to go through the trouble of adding a shower head without jumping in and fixing up the entire tub/shower combo.

I think my first shot at designing wasn’t very glamorous but it was very necessary. We changed out the tub from a round garden style tub to a slim sleek tub that took up less space in the small bathroom. It was the only bathroom so I need it to feel as large as possible. We also added a light with a fan because our bathroom didn’t have a fan so the moisture in the bathroom was causing the paint to peel and potentially other problems that I didn’t know about. I worked with a local handyman since the project was pretty small and I knew I didn’t have enough experience to execute this myself.

This little reno got me started and a couple of years later when my husband and I realized we needed to move (this house only had one bathroom and was on the smaller side) we decided to renovate our little home on Duncan so that someone could love it as much as we did.
